The Trump administration is getting ready to unveil a plan that would sharply curtail the ability of legal immigrants to become US citizens or get green cards if they participated in federal welfare and entitlement programs.
The move is the brainchild of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller as apart of his broad plan to limit the number of migrants who become US citizens annually. The rules are still being finalized, but a rough draft indicates that those who benefited from Obamacare, food stamps, children’s health insurance and other entitlements could be prevented from becoming legal US citizens.
According to immigration lawyers who spoke to NBC News, this rule change could impact up to 20 million immigrants. These leftist special interest organizations who benefit from the open border status quo paint a sob story of low-income immigrants who can no longer live their American dream.
“Any policy forcing millions of families to choose between the denial of status and food or health care would exacerbate serious problems such as hunger, unmet health needs, child poverty and homelessness, with lasting consequences for families’ wellbeing and long-term success and community prosperity,” the National Immigration Law Center said in a public statement.
The Trump administration sees things a little bit differently.
“The administration is committed to enforcing existing immigration law, which is clearly intended to protect the American taxpayer by ensuring that foreign nationals seeking to enter or remain in the U.S are self-sufficient. Any proposed changes would ensure that the government takes the responsibility of being good stewards of taxpayer funds seriously and adjudicates immigration benefit requests in accordance with the law,” a Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman said.
It is a well-known fact that immigrant households are far more likely to take welfare and other taxpayer-funded benefits. The Trump administration is trying to reduce waste while protecting the demographic integrity of the United States, but of course, it is the Democrats who stand in his way.
“From conducting raids at garden centers, and meatpacking plants, to breaking up families at churches and schools, ICE is tearing apart families and ripping the moral fabric of our nation,” Rep. Mark Pocan (R-WI) said.
“While eliminating ICE would be an important step, it alone is not enough to halt Donald Trump’s deportation machine,” Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-NY) said in a public statement. “This Administration is attacking immigrants on a multitude of fronts and we must resist on all of them. That includes reuniting and releasing families separated at the border, ending family detention and passing protections for Dreamers and TPS recipients.”
“We should be prioritizing the protection of families and our borders in a humane and thoughtful way. People should be treated with compassion and respect. ICE is simply not doing that,” Sen. Dick Blumenauer (D-OR) said in a public statement. “Trump and his administration have made the agency so toxic that it’s time to abolish ICE, and start over.”
The Democrats want to flood the country with third-worlders so they can buy them off, secure their votes, and keep their power. It has nothing to do with compassion. Trump will continue onward with his ‘America First’ immigration policy despite their disingenuous cries and deceptions.
